How are private_handicap and speed_rating fields calculated

Hello,

Is there any information anywhere on specifics on how handicap or speed rating fields are calculated?

I'm asking because I'm using the database in machine learning algorithm and I'm interested what fields are redudant and/or independent of each other and which values I should use as it's too resurce intensive to use all the values for all the past runner races.
