Hi -

For past races, you can find the handicap rating for a race within the race_abbrev_name column, thus looking at some of the values here:

>select race_abbrev_name from historic_races limit 100;

Arab Race
Handicap Hurdle 60-81
Maiden Hurdle (5yo)
Maiden Hurdle (6yo)
Beginners Chase
Chase
Handicap Chase 0-95 (5yo+)
Nat Hunt Flat (4yo+)
App Maiden Stakes
Selling Stakes
Selling Stakes
Handicap 0-100
Handicap 0-90
Handicap 0-70
Handicap 0-75
Handicap 0-70
Novice Chase
Handicap Chase 0-145
Novice Hurdle (4yo)

For upcoming races, use the race_title field in daily_races, thus:

Betfredbingo Novices' Hurdle
Betfredcasino Handicap Hurdle
Betfred Handicap Chase
betfred.com Novices' Hurdle
'Text Betfred To 83080 For Mobile Betting' Novices' Chase
Betfredpoker Novices' Handicap Chase
Betfredcasino Maiden Open NH Flat Race
State Rox Off Novices' Hurdle
Sands Venue Live Entertainment Handicap Hurdle
State Of Dance Handicap Chase
Coolfun Ltd Grimthorpe Handicap Chase
State Of Independence Novices' Handicap Hurdle
State Cinema Beginners' Chase
State Club Members Standard NH Flat Race (Conds/Amats)
Kilberry Maiden Hurdle
N.I. Childrens Hospice Maiden Hurdle
Garlow Cross Handicap Hurdle (81-116)
Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Chase
Trim Beginners Chase
Navan Handicap Chase (0-123)

Alternatively, you can also look at the handicap marks of the highest rated horse in the race to help determine the range.

Thanks Very much Colin, that will help, although it would be far easier to have the data definitions as numeric values to aid the programming/querying accuracy and effort. Cheers, Brian.
Agree - unfortunately the feeds we license don't provide the raw value, and we're reluctant to provide derived variables, but may change on this in future.
No probs thanks we’ve got round it anyway.
